The green umbrella
Sustainability demystified! - the word is an ‘umbrella term’ for the incorporation of more environmentally friendly features in our homes and in our workplaces.
As you can read in our articles and will be discovering for yourself, there is a lot to consider and we help you put this all together - in our work with you, designing your new project
Passive solar design
..is a practical, common sense set of ideas that this Practice incorporates in all our work. Starting with fitting the building to the site, the design philosophy results in comfortable places to live and work. Passive Solar is about utilizing the building fabric to help keep you warm in winter and cool in summer
Energy effectiveness
a term developed by this Practice, energy effectiveness is the next step. Buildings need their energy requirements to be designed for and for these to be managed by the property owner. Working from Passive solar principles, integrating natural light, solar technology and fresh air in to the whole design is part of this concep
Material choices
your material selections are important and working with the right advice will be very helpful when you are working through the design process. Low toxicity, embodied energy, and practical material applications are all aspects of the overall design that need to be incorporated into the process of selecting your materials
Resource conservation
many of these working principles integrate with each other and
this is no exception. Energy is joined by water, air and earth as requiring thought when we design your project. We will also consider reusing materials or other useful elements as we progress
Sustainability in practice
I think it’s best to practice what you preach.
There are lots of benefits too, living and working in a healthy
environment is important to what we do and to how we work.
Our commitment is to work with you to create a more sustainable
and environment friendly world to live in and you will enjoy the result!
